UNIVERSITY | Finding a Balance

Through the ages of high school and college, parents would moan and moan... and moan at you for not doing enough work or even doing none. Though as I've had to find out, university is a whole other ball game. This time round, it's not testing your strength and patience with pesky parents, but your self effort and will power to actually get up before 10am and go to lectures that you're not even registered in.

Now this may sound fairly easy off the cuff, but once you start getting into that routine of 'catching up later on' and deciding that extra hour of sleep is better than the £9000 you paid for (which it sometimes is) then things can get a little difficult. With deadlines creeping up and procrastination settling in, it can get a little overwhelming at times. Especially as, unlike high school and college, you have no one constantly on your back barking at you to do work.

The point I'm trying to make is, try not to slack. I know its hard since you're probably going out 6 of the 7 days a week, but at least allocate an hour (2 if your feeling studious) of the day to sort out your shit; whether that be catching up on lecture notes or going over lectures. Of course nearer to exam season you have to try and amp up your game a little, but if you've been keeping fairly up to date then you won't be that kid doing all nighters in the library with only the creepy janitor and dozy receptionist as company.

Lets be honest though, uni (especially 1st year) is 95% socialising and vodka. So go out and get smashed. Just drink a glass of water... if you can remember, before you doze off into a drunken coma at 6am to avoid the aftermath and regret later on in the day. Then you may, on the off chance, just about be able to function enough to get that slightest bit of work done. False hope obviously.

I'm not saying I'm this perfect student. In fact, I'm more like that lazy ass that I described earlier on in this rant. I'm just hoping that by letting my thoughts out that it will not only give myself a kick up the backside, but maybe spark a light in someone else's head too.

Coming to the end of this and I'm quite liking the University themed posts, maybe a beauty related one will pop up next?
