5 Steps To: Bigger Eyes

Finding ways to make the eyes appear bigger has proven quite the mission. One in which I've still yet to fully solve. However along the journey, Ive definitely picked up a few tips and tricks that have been more than useful in my conquest.

1. Use A Nude Liner In The Water Line:
I'm sure most of you already know of this trick, but before the nude liner, white was the next best alternative. I found this to be a tad too harsh and so when Rimmel released their Scandaleyes liner in 'nude', I was totally on board. If you're looking for a more dramatic look and want to darken the bottom of your eyes without closing them up, then I recommend sweeping a dark shadow on the lower lash line for added definition... just steer clear of the water line.

2. Avoid Eyeliner And Eyeshadow On The Inner Third Of The Eyelid:
With eyeliner, you want a thicker line on the outer third of the upper lash line, gradually getting thinner towards the middle of the lid. If you can, avoid lining the inner third all together, but if your like me and simply can't resist, then keep the line to a minimum. Similarly, try to avoid darker shadows on the inner third, this will close up the eye, as will the eyeliner, making your eyes appear smaller than usual.

3. Focus On The Crease:
when attempting eyeshadow, keep your darker shades concentrated on the crease and 'outer V'. This will ultimately deepen the crease, giving the illusion of deeper set and wider eyes. Of course, there isn't a need to be too dramatic on an everyday basis, a simple matte brown shadow should do the trick... just be sure that everything is properly blended.

4. Highlight :
You would typically associate this with the tops of the cheek bones, but highlighting the eye is also a rather nifty trick. Adding a lighter shadow to the brow bone creates an extra dimension, making your eyes appear more deep set and structured. Also, dabbing a lighter shade with a little more shimmer on the middle of the eyelid (where the pupil is situated) will enlarge the middle of the eye and catch one's focus first. Finally, adding a highlight to the inner corner will simply brighten the eyes, making them look fresher and more wide awake.

5. Long, Voluminous Lashes:
long, voluminous lashes are crucial in making your eyes appear bigger. Lashings of mascara should do the job just fine; purchase a mascara that will offer you what mother nature forgot. So if you have short but voluminous lashes, get yourself a lengthening mascara. However, if you're like me and was unfortunately not blessed with either, then false lashes are the way to go. Again you don't want to go too dramatic, but there are a lot of natural looking falsies out on the market at the moment, just take your pick.
